Event Information

After ten years of awesome music, packed-out dance floors, thousands of bands and smiley faces all round, Hockley Hustle Music Festival was proud to present Young Hustlers. The first two instalments brought a multicultural and family-orientated day of fantastic creative activities to Nottingham’s younger generation and their adults. This year will be even better!

Following the success of last years festival, which sold 500 tickets alongside giving 200 tickets to low-income families across Nottingham, Young Hustlers, funded by Arts Council England, Youth Music and Nottingham Business Improvement District (BID), is gearing up to bring you a whole day of fun on Sunday 27 October.

Alongside the day’s events, Young Hustlers will be running free creative workshops leading up to the festival at Nonsuch Studios, aimed at encouraging a wider involvement, and a sense of ownership from the city as a whole.

Party sensations, Big Fish Little Fish, are returning to Nottingham Contemporary with their award-winning, critically-acclaimed, family rave.

Award-winning beatboxer, Alex ‘Motormouf’ Young will be leading beatbox workshops; world-renowned graffiti artist and owner of Montana Shop Nottingham, Dilk, will be encouraging young people to make their mark on the 2019 Young Hustlers graffiti mural; and local practitioner, 4 X World Champion Scratch DJ, Mr Switch will be showing youngsters how to DJ.

We care about the future of our planet, so we’re thinking green for this year’s festival. Expect to see recycle bins dotted around the place, as well as street gardens. And if you want to learn more about what local people are doing to be more sustainable, check out the talks going on at City Arts which becomes the mothership of green-focused talks, education and action, featuring a star cast of energetic environmentalists. All talks can be heard through a bicycle-powered speaker system whilst award-winning eco artist and designer Sarah Turner will design the Young Hustlers Water Bottle that we will make after the festival in an eco-friendly way.

Sneinton Market hosts a whole range of activities including Lego Club, open studios from the UK’s first dedicated Hip Hop School, Baby People, music performances from Inspire Youth Arts and IMARA, stage decor from Deerstock festival, craft workshops, carnival parades and more!

Festival directors Ben Welch and Tommy Farmyard say “We’re delighted to have curated another festival full to the brim of fun activities for the whole family. The events are often educational as well as very entertaining and we hope that everyone who attends leaves with a smile on their face
